Mystery cake

Unortunately, I have been slack and am writing this a long time after the event. The problem with this is I cannot remember what cake was baked. I even have a picture of it here.

We have remembered that was nutty and a little dry, and by looking at the picture I think it might be hazelnut. I have even asked John (who made the cake) and he cannot remember either. Who forgets their own cake? If you recognise this as a cake you know, please let me know so I can tell all the lovely people what John actually made.

Cheese in a bun?

When you are making buns, it is not often that I think to myself that it is missing some cheese. Tom however found a recipe that filled this need for cheese in a bun.

Nice tower of buns there

You can see the cheese in the picture above. Although people were asking what the blob of stuff was and why there was cheese in the top with dubious looks on their faces, they all dived in and ate the buns with vigour. The soft buns went quite well with the creamy soft cheese that was in them, and I wanted to have more.  Delicious.

Cheese Scones

Another great classic that we all love to eat. The scone. It has been a while since our last scone, and Martin clearly decided that something savoury was to be baked this week. With his usual ability to make a scone taste good, he went ahead and made cheese scones that tased good.

They looked good too, even though the colours on the picture here make it look not as good as it did in real life, it still looks good. With a generous layer of butter these scones hit the spot.

Simple and tasty

If in doubt for what to make, a simple sponge done well is always tasty. This good looking young lady decided to bake a magnificent and delicious cake for us all this week. Some nice dusting going on there I must say. I like the way this picture is framed to get the health and safety at work act in so that you can all rest well knowing that we take our employees safety seriously.

I wonder if we will get people  in the cake photos more often…

Happy Birthday to Martin

It is Martins birthday today, but I will be nice and not tell you how old he is. He got an Adrian made ice-cream birthday cake complete with brandy snaps. Here’s a picture.

The cake was tasty, but as it had just come out of the freezer was near impossible to cut into slices. It maybe should have been out for a few minutes before being served so that we could actually get some. We decided to dig into the brandy snaps first and found out they tasted good, but were not a snappy as I would have liked. Maybe because the cream inside them had softened the shells. By the time we had talked a while, then eaten a snap apiece, the cake looked a little thawed. We went to dig in again, but it was still frozen. We managed to get it cut up and served out though, and everyone enjoyed the ice-creamy yummyness (do I use yummy too much?).

Whoopie!!!

Wendy produced some strange but delicious looking things at 10:30 today. With them looking good, but not like anything we recognised, we asked what they were. They were Banoffee Whoopie Pies. Sounds exciting. Have a look and see what you think.

They were just as good as they looked. A bit difficult to eat as they had the over full sandwich effect. You know what I mean, where the filling starts to ooze out of the opposite side to where you are biting.

It was also bonus cake week as we had another tray of Sardinian delights delivered. Thank you to all those in Sardinia who like to see us enjoying their cakes.

They are always so delicately decorated. And so many to choose from. Some with marzipan, some like fruit cake and some that taste like sugar and I can’t decide what they are made of, but they are nice anyway.

Ice ice bunny

Look at them! Not only did Martin make incredibly light and fluffy iced buns, but he also displayed them on a two layer cake plate. Very nice Martin. These were so delicious that I could have eaten more than one of them. I do believe that it is a recipie tat needs to be done again purely for my benefit.

Well done that man!

Millionaire

Very yummylicious millionaire shortbread brought to our happy office by Georges fair hand this week. A nice and crumbly base with a thick layer of caramel that made everone say mmmmm.

Apparently, the making of this was not simple. Somehow George always manages to complicate things. To make the caramel you have to use a tin of condensed milk (as all avid bakers will know). George managed to somehow buy ready made caramel instead, but this would not do. Instead of just using the accidentally gained tin, he decided to go back to the shop and, using more care this time, select the correct tin so that he could make his caramel properly. Well done for effort George, but not for shopping skills.

Toblerone cheesecake

Chocolatey treats in store for us today. Tom can be relied upon to always give this cake thing a good go, and this week he did not disappoint.

Doesn’t this look good. It does look as though the cake is sat straight onto the desk in this picture, but I assure you that there was something underneath it. I think you can see it if you look hard enough.

Yum yum!

Fully cooked brownie

John decided that his last attempt at chocolate brownies was not good enough (or not cooked enough) so he would try them again. Using a slightly different recipie with nuts and chocolate chunks in he created some lovely brown cuboids of chocalaty goodness that could this time be classed as brownies as oppose to cake mix.

They were very tasty and hinted on what the previous attempt could have been. I have only one complaint. They did not arrive on time. Once again we had shop cake on the Friday and had to wait until Monday for home baked cake to appear. But it tasted good so we kind of let him off, but not completely.

Try harder on your timings next time John, but do bakes that are juat as yummy.
